Homeschoolers have created networks of support to provide a way to make friends, get ideas and information, and to offer positive socialization opportunties to their children. You can join in! There are many groups to choose from, many with specific affiliations, like Christian groups or unschoolers' groups. Some are eclectic, inclusive, and open to anyone. Umbrella/Cover Schools
An umbrella or cover school provides an alternative way for parents to fulfill governmental educational guidelines and requirements. Most offer a variety of services, which can include curricula, social activities, field trips, standardized testing, portfolio reviews, evaluations, and graduation materials, including diplomas. While umbrella schools do tend to the needs of homeschoolers, they are considered a type of private school in most states.
Resource Centers
Homeschool resource centers offer classes, materials, field trips, and other activities for parents and children alike. They are great ways to get new information, engage in group activities, and network with other homeschoolers.
Public School Programs
Public schools are increasing offering programs to appeal to homeschooling families, from classes to educational materials to computer and distance learning. How to Comply with Colorado's Homeschool Law
In Colorado, there are three options under which you can legally homeschool. You are free to choose the option that best meets your family’s needs. Colorado Heritage Education School System Independent School
The Colorado Heritage Independent School, a private Christian school, provides homeschooling families "umbrella school" services (record keeping, etc.). Homeschooling families who are not enrolled in an independent school must report their records to a public school district. Students enrolled in their independent school are considered private school students, and as such, submit records to Colorado Heritage. Lea County Homeschool Association
Lea County Homeschool Association is a group of parents and children who have come together for support and fellowship.
The purpose of their association is to provide support, encouragement, and social situations such as field day events, special field trips, etc. They also provide two, 8-week, co-op sessions per year for children of all ages in our association.
Southern NM Homeschool Association
The Southern NM Homeschool Association is southern New Mexico's source for park days, field trips, events, cooperative learning and support for homeschoolers in the area. Includes the Deming, Las Cruces, Silver City and Lordsburg areas, as well as surrounding areas. All ages are welcome.
Front Range Christian School Homeschool Program
Front Range Christian offers homeschool options for K-12 students. Elementary and junior high students (K-8) may participate in a one day per week homeschool enrichment program. Senior high students (9th-12th) may choose from any core or elective courses (on a space available basis). Front Range Christian School also offers a complete umbrella program for families desiring assistance with record keeping, graduation and more.
