Support Groups
Homeschoolers have created networks of support to provide a way to make friends, get ideas and information, and to offer positive socialization opportunties to their children. You can join in! There are many groups to choose from, many with specific affiliations, like Christian groups or unschoolers' groups. Some are eclectic, inclusive, and open to anyone. Umbrella/Cover Schools
An umbrella or cover school provides an alternative way for parents to fulfill governmental educational guidelines and requirements. Most offer a variety of services, which can include curricula, social activities, field trips, standardized testing, portfolio reviews, evaluations, and graduation materials, including diplomas. While umbrella schools do tend to the needs of homeschoolers, they are considered a type of private school in most states.
Resource Centers
Homeschool resource centers offer classes, materials, field trips, and other activities for parents and children alike. They are great ways to get new information, engage in group activities, and network with other homeschoolers.
Public School Programs
Public schools are increasing offering programs to appeal to homeschooling families, from classes to educational materials to computer and distance learning. FACE School
FACE (Family Academy of Christian Education) is a private and independent school, founded in 1996, to support and enhance the home education experience of families in Colorado and worldwide. FACE also serves as an official records-only program for Colorado home education that satisfies homeschooling law in Colorado. FACE offers multiple enrollment choices and exciting opportunities for families.
How to Comply with Colorado's Homeschool Law
In Colorado, there are three options under which you can legally homeschool. You are free to choose the option that best meets your family’s needs. These options include homeschooling under Colorado's homeschool statute, homeschooling with an independent school, and homeschooling with a certified teacher.
High Country Home Educators
High Country operates an independent school, High Country Christian Academy. HCCA is incorporated as a private school, and students enrolled are not under the home school law but under the private school law. Colorado Heritage Education School System Independent School
The Colorado Heritage Independent School, a private Christian school, provides homeschooling families "umbrella school" services (record keeping, etc.). Front Range Christian School Homeschool Program
Front Range Christian offers homeschool options for K-12 students. Elementary and junior high students (K-8) may participate in a one day per week homeschool enrichment program.
